Getting a Puppy?

BE PREPARED!!!

Chewing Be prepared for your puppy to chew up your belongings. Puppies do like to chew. Make sure your puppy has lots of toys so they can chew to satisfy their need to chew. This will help keep him from chewing up your treasured belongings.

Kennel training This will help keep your puppy from destroying the house while you are away. It will also teach your puppy bladder control. Puppies need to relieve themselves every few hours, so make sure you take your puppy straight from the kennel to the spot outdoors where you want your puppy to go. If you kennel train properly it will also teach your puppy not to be afraid of the kennel.

Teaching your puppy the meaning of NO! The most important thing is to be CONSISTENT. Never hit your puppy, but firmly tell them NO when you catch them in the act of doing something wrong. Praise them when they do what you want them to do.

Accidents Good commercial cleaners made expressly for the purpose of cleaning up after accidents are available from pet stores or anywhere that sales pet supplies. A good in home solution for accidents on carpets is baking soda and vinegar to neutralize the odor and clean up the stain.

Lots of TLC!!! If raising a puppy doesn’t exactly sound like great fun to you, consider getting an adult dog. They bond just as well and they have just as much love to give you. Regardless of whether you choose to get a young puppy or an older dog, please consider going to your local shelter. Shelter’s have puppies and adults of all types and sizes all waiting for a loving home like yours. Adopt from a shelter and save a life!

WEST END ANIMAL SHELTER is a non-kill shelter that has puppies and adult dogs, all looking for a good home like yours. They also have kittens and cats that are in need of a good home. Remember adopting a pet is forever.
